Now that we’ve officially hit late May, it finally feels like the real deal. The heavy spring rains are tapering off, the sun is staying out past 8:30 PM, and everyone in Sioux City has the exact same thought on Friday afternoon: Where are we sitting outside?
At 48 South Apartments, we love a quiet evening grilling on a private deck as much as anyone. But when you want someone else to do the cooking while you soak up the late-May breeze, Siouxland has some incredible outdoor spaces.
From hidden brewery courtyards to sweeping riverside views, here is a breakdown of the absolute best patio spots to hit this season.

The Neighborhood Staples: Soho Kitchen & Bar and Four Brothers
Sometimes you just want an ice-cold draft beer, a massive burger, and a spot to people-watch.
Soho Kitchen & Bar: Located right in the heart of Historic 4th Street, Soho’s sidewalk patio lets you soak in the historic architecture and vibrant foot traffic of the downtown district. It’s perfect for a casual Friday lunch or late-night drinks.
Four Brothers Grill & Bar: If you want to stay closer to the Southern Hills area, Four Brothers on Singing Hills Blvd has a great, energetic patio space. Their menu is massive, the portions are huge, and the outdoor seating gets the perfect amount of evening sun.

The Big View: CRAVE American Kitchen & Sushi Bar
If you want to feel like you’re on a mini-vacation without leaving town, head down to CRAVE at the Hilton Garden Inn Riverfront. It is famously the only spot in the city where you can get true riverside dining. Their massive outdoor patio overlooks the Sioux City Marina and the Missouri River. Complete with fire pits and a circular outdoor bar, it is easily one of the most upscale atmospheres in town.
The Vibe: High-end and breezy. Go for a sunset roll of sushi, a cold cocktail, and front-row seats to the water.

The Craft Beer Courtyards: Marto Brewing Co. & Jackson Street Brewing
For the craft beer lovers, downtown has two heavy-hitters with completely different outdoor personalities.
Marto Brewing Co. (4th Street): Known for their incredible wood-fired Neapolitan pizzas and world-class beers, Marto features a fantastic patio. It’s industrial, hip, and the perfect place to shade yourself from the afternoon sun while sharing a pie.
Jackson Street Brewing (Jackson Street): If you prefer something a bit more tucked away, Jackson Street's cozy outdoor alley space is a local treasure. It feels like a hidden neighborhood block party, especially when they have local food trucks parked nearby.

The Country Escape: Oscar Carl Vineyard
Technically just a few minutes east of town off Highway 20, Oscar Carl Vineyard is the ultimate weekend escape. Their outdoor seating area overlooks the rolling valley and the grapevines, making it feel like a completely different world.
The Vibe: Completely relaxed. Grab a flight of Iowa-grown wines or one of their famous wine slushies, order off their limited menu, and just breathe in the country air.
Patio Season Pro-Tip: Many of our local downtown spots—especially Four Brothers, Marto, and Jackson Street—are incredibly dog-friendly on their patios. Just make sure your furry roommate is on a leash before you head out!
